OI is an important part of Elkarte project, nowadays there are not many new forums started, but there are some old and good comunities based on old software that are trying to migrate to a more modern software. Having a fully importer working is important to attract new users... IMHO ;)
What about upgrade.php that (I think) at first was planned to upgrade SMF to ElkArte?
The upgrade from SMF was dropped a while ago.
It may be worth considering to "merge" OI into Elk install "at some point", but to make this happen there are few things that need to be worked out, first and foremost a fully working OI. :-[
