iurl

The BBC iurl shouldn't allow you to link outside of the site. Yet, when I do, Chrome seems to find the site anyway. Not sure how to fix this, but there should be a way.

The I means internal. If it's not going to work as expected, it should be removed or fixed.

I always intended the iurl as a "do not open new window" type of url, and never though about the "internal-VS-external" aspect.
I would keep it like that, I like to have a way not to open new windows/tabs all over the places.
