Chrome oder Opera - Was sind die Unterschiede?

Hallo!

Opera has been based on the Chromium engine since 2013. There isn't really any difference between Chrome and Opera as far as website rendering goes, but Opera has a slightly better interface.

There are also several alternative successors to traditional Opera, including Vivaldi and Otter Browser. (Disclaimer: I have some involvement in Otter.)

@Feline
Examples would be nice and potentially a definition of schief as well. ;)

Of course Opera isn't 100% the same as Chrome at any given time, but Opera 46 is built on Chromium 59, which means rendering-wise it's by definition pretty darn similar to any other browser using Chromium 59, whether it's Chrome, Sleipnir, Vivaldi or Yandex. I'd base my choice on which UX and other distinct features you like best. Vivaldi and Otter both make better Operas than Opera/Blink, for example, but Opera still has unique features like built-in Opera Turbo (data compression through a proxy easily usable for all).[1]

On mobile the various WebKits and Blinks can occasionally be much more distinct than they tend to be on desktop, but even ppk has started grouping all of the mobile Chromium browsers under Chromium, e.g., https://quirksmode.org/mobile/tableViewport.html In his tables Google is just one vendor that makes a Chromium browser, for good reason I'd say. And whether it's for better or worse, when there are differences it looks like Opera Mobile usually matches up with mobile Chrome to boot.

But Otter works best with revived QtWebKit, so it won't necessarily render things like a Chromium browser if that's something you like.

"geht schief" in this context means , that things are going wrong and are not proper displayed.

Thank you all for your replys.

I don't like the InternetExplorer at all, but this browser seems to work perfect for our members. Firefox seems to cause some problems in our forum for some of our members, we don't know why. But both browsers display anything still as it should be.

It is just Opera in my resolution which has somehow "broken" the styling in ElkArte. It has nothing to do with the last update of ElkArte, because I see those mistakes since a few weeks/months in any ElkArte-Forum, no matter in which version they are. Thin bright lines at the basic of the buttons, the linktree and the categorie-headers.  ::)

The hamburger button was never displayed with Opera, so the linktree was always looking quite different than in other browsers. But those white lines now are very ugly for me.

I will give Chrome a try. Maybe this browser will be better for me than Opera

Das ist ganz klar! :D What I mean is that we might disagree whether anything is in fact going wrong at all. For example, the designer might specify that the text should be 150% wide so you have to scroll horizontally to read it. If Opera subsequently reflows the text so it always properly fits on the screen, from the designer's perspective Opera might be messing up while from the user's perspective Opera managed to rescue an an otherwise unusable or barely usable design.

NB This example is partially made up. Dolphin and Opera Mobile offer forced text wrapping as an option, but I don't think it's enabled by default. I imagine that all Blink-based browsers could enable this feature in principle. If it's not in the GUI it might hide out in about:flags.

Is there a thread about this elsewhere? I don't see anything odd in any browser released in the past five years or so (let's say IE9 and better, which includes a wide swath of much older non-IE browsers :P).

I am sorry, Frenzie ...I don't understand everything you have written now. Too difficult for me.

No. I can start a thread about this with some screenshots to show the differences between the browsers/the resolutions.

Nearly all of those bright lines in Opera are just to see, if you use more than 100 % in Browser or on PC, to get a larger font, etc. A few weeks ago everything was proper displayed with my resolution.

I am (nearly) half blind 8) and need this resolution. ;)

Here's what this website looks like in Opera for me when zoomed in a bit much.

My default mode is "zoomed in" anyway because I've had an UHD monitor for a few years now. Just not quite that much. I also zoom in plenty for easy "mobile" testing. ;)

This is too big to show the mistakes, in this resolution it looks proper for me as well.

Take something between...

Or wait for my screenshots. ;) In our forum they are better to see because of our darker colors.

Why don't you use the Web Developer addon/plugin/whatever for testing the mobile design in all its variants ?

Because I find zooming in and out and changing the window size much easier and more informative to boot. Perhaps I'm weird, but I just type innerWidth in the console if for some reason I want to know the precise number. Anyway, I was just saying I'm no stranger to more (or less) than "100%," especially in Elk. ;)
