droppies

First of all let me say I like dropdown menus.

That said, from time to time they are... irritating and I wish we could find a better approach altogether.
For example, see the attachment: the dropdowns are frequently between you and something else (some times another row of menus for example).

I really wonder if dropdown are the "best" option we have...
Bugs creator.

I don't know it it's the best solution, but is surely easy and intuitive. Beside that many SMF users could find that easy because they are identical to SMF

Don't know either ... Seems like they are everywhere since they just kind of work. 

I've seen on mobile when they slide the content down when the menus "slide" open, that way everything is visible but ov course the page shifts a bit when the menu is opening and closing.

There could be room to have the first menus drop down but open horizontally and not shift anything as well.  That minimizes the vertical space but then you will have  more mouse movement as you chase down the item you wanted.
