1) create a topic
2) move it and leave a moved notice
3) create a second topic
4) merge the moved notice with the topic at point 3
5) enjoy the result! :P
To stay on the safe side, I think a solution could be the same as wikipedia: a "noredir" link somewhere in MessageIndex.
That would workaround both this issue and the non-deletable issue.
Of course a proper way to fix both is good, a "noredir" would just be some in addition.

For the moment I borrowed the positioning of the "new" message, it doesn't look that bad...it can be improved. :P

If I recall .. if you make one of those a redirect move thing as outlined in the first post, you get kind of locked out with no way to edit the moved notice thing ... so that box allows you to get in to that notice should you need to. I don't think that link button will show up for anyone but admin/mods etc ... You know the guy who put that stuff in place really should have thought about how Ema might use something :P
Find a better place for it if you don't like it. :P

A simple icon of a kind would work as well, though I was too lazy to think where to put it and I just used what was already there. O:-)
Then perhaps just label it "edit" rather than "hey there's a link here you might want to click it or you might not dunno but here it is anyway kthnxbai".
