/packages/temp

I installed @emanuele 's aeva media addon yesterday at my fresh installed ElkArte. I get an error message at the first try: packages directory not writable. I know this error from SMF, it seems you kept it.  ;)

I had to install a /packages/temp directory with chmod 777. Then the error was gone and the addon was installed.

Maybe there's a way to create this directory automatically or find a way this isn't needed?

I thought the installer checked to make sure that directory was writtable (like cache etc) ... maybe it does not, need to check.
