Dragooon, Mick and Labradoodle-360, welcome guys! ;D
Hi! Thought it might be interesting to check things out here.
Yeah... Things out here is indeed interesting. And hello to everyone here.
Thanks for the friendly greeting!
I am very curious what you are aiming for with Elkarte 1.0, compared to SMF 2.1.
Thank you. Trying to stay in the loop :D
Mick. G.
while (true)
{
Mick();
}
...mmm are you a function or a variable? :P
And welcome to today's new comers: Colin, ahrasis and Yoshi2889!
Globals are bad! :P
Maybe he is a SuperGlobal or even a MagicConstant 8)
So far that I know they are the same as they are both at alpha version. Both will not be that much different from current SMF 2.0 and look promising. So I was thinking why not learn them all and see which one I like most later on. And may I know why you are so curious then? Don't you like me being here ;)
Code will change pretty significantly I think ahrasis. And much of it already has with the addition of quite a bit of OOP.
Angel,
I would wager say the things you'll see happen in Elkarte are all the things that we discussed doing with SMF 2.1 but were shot down. Or dare I say, told to do what we really didn't want to. ;) The way things seems to be going from my point of view though, is that we are doing much more re-factoring of the code to be more inline with the standards with OOP though than previously planned. Above all for me though, is just doing what we want without having any limitations, schedules, or drama to slow things down.
If that is so, there are more reasons for me to be here. I already like what have been done so far... :D
I am all for eliminating drama.
And I am happy that more refactoring can be done than was originally thought possible. This sounds like manageable steps toward the kind of "new code base" for SMF that has been envisioned for a long time.
As for "other priorities". That was a difficult series of decisions, wasn't it? A lot of the team wanted to limit the number of changes in order to make the newer version faster to produce. It sounds as though you are saying that tthe rest of the team JUST DIDN'T GET IT, in terms of what kinds of features do and do not contribute to a nice quick release.
Sounds like, in addition to having fun, you are heading towards demonstrating your claims by just building it.
Welcome groundup, Aaron and Thorsten. :)
And welcome Jeff! ;D (a bit late sorry ;))
Welcome to the party Farjo, ziycon and Arantor! :P
Late, late...welcome shadow82x!

Thought I would pop in here and say Hello to all the familiar faces I see. It's great to see ElkArte in beta 2 release already.
Thanks for the welcome, and with so many joining it's hard to remember to welcome them all.
Thanks for the welcome,
@emanuele.
I'm lovin' the look of the boards section and the mentions feature. I still haven't checked out the admin-side of things but I'll be honest with you'll, there's a couple of things I don't admire that much and one of them is rolling over the poster to get a peek at his/her post count.
Thanks for the Welcome and I know you have many things to do! :) and does show here and in the Beta versions.
looking real nice all!
regards,
Maxx
And what is it the other one? :D
Good idea. Thanks for the tip when I start using ElkArte :D
Just wanted to say that I love what I am seeing here. The ElkArte / SimplePortal combination looks like it will be great to work with.
Glad you are enjoying it :D
As both are in RC, well ElkArte is in RC, simpleportal is dunno ... as it is a port of the 2.4 version of SP which is still under development I guess alpha, but since its built on a solid base of 2.3 its really only alpha for the new 2.4 features and all the Elk specific features / code refactoring.
Thats a long way of saying there will be bugs, of course there are always bugs. As you find issues be sure to report them so we can stomp em !
Nice to read! :D
Just a couple of minor things but I will post them to the other thread soon.
Since the SimplePortal site is pretty much for SMF where do I go if I have a n00b question about coding a block for Elk? I know what I am looking to do is not that hard for a coder... but for me.... thats another story...
If its a php block that needs some specific Elk code then I'd guess here is fine but last I knew the SP team was willing to help with support,
@Eliana Tamerin or
@[SiNaN] could say for sure what they would like.
Just trying to figure out how to pull up a memberlist in a left side SimplePortal box. Can not seem to do this on pages such as Profile...
Let's see how long I can keep this round. :P
Welcome everybody that joined since last time I tried to welcome on a daily basis!
And welcome
@Alphonse !
Welcome
@Andrew B. to the ElkArte Community! ;D
Thanks for the warm welcome :D
Sup peeps,
This looks interesting so I decided to join. :p
Whaddup?
Just so I know, do any of you guys know me lol?
Welcome! :D
I'm sure I read your nick somewhere, I'm not sure if we ever crossed our topics... lol
Welcome Mstcool, :D I'll say your username is familiar from SMF days but don't don't have any dirt on you lol :P
Thanks guys! :)

I registered over a year ago? :o Time's running!!!
Hi,
I'm Timothy and I am from Australia.
I enjoy running websites for fun, but i'm not much of a coder. I currently run a Wedge board for my friends, and have used SMF, PHPBB and MyBB in the past.
I also play World of Warcraft!!!
Hello
@Bunstonious!
Nice range of experience. :D
Thankyou, I have indeed used many different forum software (I also deliver my entire forum over SSL which differs from most people), but it's been hard to find one that really sticks.
Welcome to ElkArte Timothy :)
Hey! Hi! Hello!
I'm here :)
Hello
@JBlaze . Welcome to ElkArte.
Also from me a hearty welcome :)
Welcome!
A little bit late... :-[
Haha I know. I kinda gave up on coding for a while. But I'm back now :)
Good to hear 8)
Hello everyone. My name is Bryan. I run a couple of offroad sites using SMF. One has been around for years (since 2003).
Anyway, I'm working to kick off another site with a slightly different twist on the offroad theme. Elkarte is the chosen platform! :) You can check it out in my sig. ;)
Thanks to those who have invested many hours developing Elkarte. I'm no coder by any stretch of the imagination, though I can hack my way through some things. You guys and gals are probably way ahead of this but - if you guys ever need live server testing, or anything else yours truly could offer, please ask! It's the least anyone could do in return for a product this nice. :)
Welcome and thanks for the offer! :D
Welcome to ElkArte
@badmonkey
Welcome, Bryan. Wow, since 2003. Nearly 13 years now. That's a long time for a board! Respect! :)
Welcome to ElkArte Forum :)
On another 13 years with ElkArte
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
You're very kind. I have to be honest though: I didn't start the oldest site. It was inherited around 2008.
Advice on getting things rolling is welcome!
We certainly hope so!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Good Morning,
i found this nice piece of Software by Surprise. Most Sites talk about SMF but forget to mention this fork.
I am impressed by the clean database Structure,the PHP OO Coding Style and the integration to use Sphinx as Search Engine.
I running for a few years a Large Mybb 1.8 based Board which was previously running on VB ( before 4.x) and before that on WBB.
Currently i am investigation if a move to Elkarte is possible and what needs to be done.
Many thanks for this excellent work & have a nice and peaceful New Year.
Welcome around Nifty. :)
At the moment an importer for MyBB 1.8 is (still) missing.
I plan to work on one, but at the moment I can't give you any time frame. :(
Hey,
thanks, i am currently working on one which is nearly complete. I have to many special requirements to use the OpenImporter.
It will be a Java based command line Importer from Mybb 1.8 to Elkarte. I can Open Source it on GitHub If anybody is interested.
Hi,
I know Vekseid off another site and he pointed some people including myself in the direction of Elkarte (here and on Github). I created some themes for his site and a couple of other gaming sites/forums before that, and I'm an Oracle-certified MySQL developer. The short of it though is I haven't worked with MySQL in a while, and it's been my own projects I've worked on, in addition to what I've studied. I'm self-employed as a writer and artist right now, but creating themes in a hobby of mine.
Welcome anankeblue! :)
Nice presentation, if you spot anything odd in the queries feel free to point it out! ;D
And if you manage to create a theme it would be nice to see it! O:-)
Thank you emanuele. :)
I haven't had a look at much yet but I will (and I'll have a better idea about themes when I do). I haven't used Github or Elkarte before so there's a learning curve. I create/edit my themes on Notepad++ (and preview them either using the dashboard/admin console or Stylish add-on for Firefox) and most of my use of MySQL has been from the command line (and later PHPMyAdmin). Aside from some CMSes (PHP Fusion, CMS Made Simple, and Wordpress, as well as MyBB and YABB) and Dreamweaver (which I don't have anymore), I generally just use Notepad++.
The themes I did for Veks were on a modified version of SMF, so I'm familiar with it. I don't have much familiarity with programs that are generally used for the creation process, though.
Yikes! Get a modern IDE like Netbeans and use Workbench to talk to MySQL :P
Welcome TehranSD. :)
I'm going to follow your advice on this.
Thanks for the warm welcomes. :)
Hello everyone :)
Hi and welcome! :)
Welcome!
Hello! Bună seara! :)
/me knows this name!
Hey, how is it?
Bună @Relyana and welcome to elkarte ;)
Thank you for the warm welcome! :)
Are you sure you really really want me to answer? :D
I'm doing great! I've left SMF's Steering Committee in January, resigned from Simple Machines's BoD in May and left the NPO as well in May. I've finally decided to make one of my old dreams come true (obtaining the best international professional certification in my area of expertise). I've got accepted to a Masters program in English this month so I'll go back to school in October. In a few years my dream will definitely come true although the exams will be anything but easy to pass.
Can't say I don't miss interacting with so many people online, testing language packs, driving translators crazy every now and then, but I had to be true to myself and move forward.
How are you and how's ElkArte doing? :)
Nice to know about you
@Relyana
That's great news!!! :D
Seems like you are having some fun after all! ;D
I'd dare say fine! :P
Coding, coding, coding! :D
Hey, what's up?
I downloaded a copy of 1.0.9 and 1.1 Beta3 and am very impressed! I've been very bored with SMF and where they seem to be heading...not trying to bash them or anything, just saying.
I think this software does need a bit of work to be polished but am still more impressed than with SMF or other forums! Keep up the great work!
I've created test sites for each of the fore-mentioned versions and will report any bugs, comments, etc. I find. :)
Welcome to Elkarte
@Skhilled
Welcome and tanks for sharing your thoughts! :)
O_o
thanks for tanks? :P
(small typo in that post of yours)
/me blames the keyboard
Thanks for the welcomes. :)

Welcome! :)
Welcome!
I was in Czech Republic last week. xD
Hello!
Currently I am the "new one" here.
I live in the middle of Germany and have been running a SMF forum for several years. I would like to convert soon to elkarte. :)
Bye,
Mrs. Chaos
Welcome Mrs. Chaos! :)
Welcome to Elkarte Mrs. Chaos!
Well, hello! I'm d3vcho, Spanish guy and SMF Localizer as of today. Just came here to see how this goes and to learn as much as possible.
Thank you very much! :)
And welcome, d3vcho!
Welcome d3vcho. :)
Welcome you two.
@Mrs. Chaos: The middle of Germany? I live near Darmstadt...
@Jorin:
I live in a village about 40 km south of Kassel, respectively 140 km (linear distance) in the north of Darmstadt.
G'Day all,
I'm marauder13 and I have just installed Elkarte on a testbed machine to learn a bit more about this software. I have no immediate plans for starting a forum site, but I do have some ideas lurking in the background. So, I will mostly be experimenting and learning about how Elkarte works and what mischief I can up to with it.
Thanking everyone in advance for reading this post,
M13
Hi all, American full-stack semantic web dev here. I like APIs, Ontology, SVG and Free Speech. I build custom CMSs, enjoy branding, prefer RDFa for linked-data and that's about it. Oh yes, lots of coffee.
Hi, I’m Ritesh. I’m a full time Blogger & Internet Marketer living in India. My skills include any kind of technical stuff, entrepreneurship, writing, and make a living online. I’m a part-time web developer too.
Welcome to elkarte Ritesh!
Hi guys,I'm new here :D , I have question about Elkarte , what advantages of your software to another forums software?
Somehow I'm gathering information because i wanna start my own community.
Support!!!! Also ease of customization.
Welcome to elkarte!
I suggest you to install in localhost elkarte and the other forum software, test them then and choose the one that best fits your needs. There is no best software, but one that best fits your needs and we all have different needs ;)
Let us know what you will choose.
Thanks for your answers badmonkey and radu81
That's a good idea radu81

We need
