Title: Updates for German translation
Post by: Jorin on August 24, 2014, 02:18:15 am
Open that topic? What do you mean with this?

The files are attached. The only one not 100% completed right now is the Help.german.php. But I am working on it (to be true a friend is).

Create a topic where attach progresses for the German translation updates, like this one. ;)

I'll check it out.

Just to keep this updated: I uploaded the files yesterday. And I see (http://www.elkarte.net/community/index.php?topic=1699.msg11848#msg11848) you did some more today.

I also updated the names of months and days of the week (it was just a matter of copy&paste, if you want the file... oh heck it's faster if I just attach it here).
To answer your previous question, what is still missing are the following indexes:
* index.german.php: welcome_guest_register, link, via (on that last one, maybe it's better wait the answer
here (http://www.elkarte.net/community/index.php?topic=1699.msg11851#msg11851));
Errors.german.php: cannot_like_posts, like_wait_time
Maillist.german.php: ml_inform_body, ml_bounce_template_body_default
* Help.german.php: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/elkarte/translate/#de/Help/26335300?translated=no (7 indexes, sorry if I don't write them all ;)).

Why? They are already translated in my files. If they aren't at Transifex we still have a problem there!  :o

I will translate the rest this week. Thanks for the list!

They are translated, but this is one of changes I did few weeks ago: change the structure of these strings from an array like:
Code: [Select]
$txt['months'] = array('January', 'February', ....);
to:
Code: [Select]
$txt['january'] = 'January';
$txt['february'] = 'February';
etc.
And fix that was one of the things to do and since it was just a copy&paste I did it quickly.

Puh, okay. Great, thanks! :)  I have to modify my files.

/me writes a note.

Can't find them in the english files I have (from RC2) also.  :o

Help.german.php has to be complete, I think, but is not 100% translated right now. We are still working on this file.

link was added slightly after RC2 I guess (29th of July), the other two were string missing found during RC2 testing and added after its release.

Pfff. Wouldn't it be easier if you'd just use my git and change the formal to informal pronouns?
Title: Re: Updates for German translation
Post by: Jorin on September 08, 2014, 05:40:28 am
I started with your translation long ago and wanted to work with yourself, but there were too much points in the files I wasn't consent with. I'm a bit picky sometimes. ;)  So I revised all files and made many changes. That's why we have two german language packs. :-X
Title: Re: Updates for German translation

Variety is a good thing, with two people can pick the one they prefer. ;)
Title: Re: Updates for German translation
Post by: Jorin on September 08, 2014, 06:00:54 am
In most cases I would agree, Emanuele. But with language packs it's different. Normally there should be one "official" language pack per language. With german it's special because we have the formal and informal problem. So there should be one pack for each variant. But not more. If an admin wishes to use some different translation he can still edit the files. Think about possible support questions. If an admin has a problem with a function and describes this in his topic, wouldn't it be chaotic if every admin would have different texts and descpritions of the functions in his forum?

Not if they settle on the formal variant (which is the most widely used one in boards AFAICS).

I myself prefer the informal variant in forums and almost entirely in all forums in which I was/am a member or in which I only read, the informal variant is used.
For me it's nicer to be addressed with "you" instead of "Mr. Smith".  ;)

In index.language.php search for (german example - only if your language files are from RC1 or RC2):

Code: [Select]
$txt['days'] = array('Sonntag', 'Montag', 'Dienstag', 'Mittwoch', 'Donnerstag', 'Freitag', 'Samstag');
$txt['days_short'] = array('So', 'Mo', 'Di', 'Mi', 'Do', 'Fr', 'Sa');
// Months must start with 1 => 'January'. (or translated, of course.)
$txt['months'] = array(1 => 'Januar', 'Februar', 'März', 'April', 'Mai', 'Juni', 'Juli', 'August', 'September', 'Oktober', 'November', 'Dezember');
$txt['months_titles'] = array(1 => 'Januar', 'Februar', 'März', 'April', 'Mai', 'Juni', 'Juli', 'August', 'September', 'Oktober', 'November', 'Dezember');
$txt['months_short'] = array(1 => 'Jan', 'Feb', 'Mär', 'Apr', 'Mai', 'Jun', 'Jul', 'Aug', 'Sep', 'Okt', 'Nov', 'Dez');

Replace with (german example):

Code: [Select]
$txt['sunday'] = 'Sonntag';
$txt['monday'] = 'Montag';
$txt['tuesday'] = 'Dienstag';
$txt['wednesday'] = 'Mittwoch';
$txt['thursday'] = 'Donnerstag';
$txt['friday'] = 'Freitag';
$txt['saturday'] = 'Samstag';

$txt['sunday_short'] = 'So';
$txt['monday_short'] = 'Mo';
$txt['tuesday_short'] = 'Di';
$txt['wednesday_short'] = 'Mi';
$txt['thursday_short'] = 'Do';
$txt['friday_short'] = 'Fr';
$txt['saturday_short'] = 'Sa';

$txt['january'] = 'Januar';
$txt['february'] = 'Februar';
$txt['march'] = 'März';
$txt['april'] = 'April';
$txt['may'] = 'Mai';
$txt['june'] = 'Juni';
$txt['july'] = 'Juli';
$txt['august'] = 'August';
$txt['september'] = 'September';
$txt['october'] = 'Oktober';
$txt['november'] = 'November';
$txt['december'] = 'Dezember';

$txt['january_titles'] = 'Januar';
$txt['february_titles'] = 'Februar';
$txt['march_titles'] = 'März';
$txt['april_titles'] = 'April';
$txt['may_titles'] = 'Mai';
$txt['june_titles'] = 'Juni';
$txt['july_titles'] = 'Juli';
$txt['august_titles'] = 'August';
$txt['september_titles'] = 'September';
$txt['october_titles'] = 'Oktober';
$txt['november_titles'] = 'November';
$txt['december_titles'] = 'Dezember';

$txt['january_short'] = 'Jan';
$txt['february_short'] = 'Feb';
$txt['march_short'] = 'Mär';
$txt['april_short'] = 'Apr';
$txt['may_short'] = 'Mai';
$txt['june_short'] = 'Jun';
$txt['july_short'] = 'Jul';
$txt['august_short'] = 'Aug';
$txt['september_short'] = 'Sep';
$txt['october_short'] = 'Okt';
$txt['november_short'] = 'Nov';
$txt['december_short'] = 'Dez';

I can't find an index.language.php in my files. Where is this page?

Um, is this correct? The months names without "r" at their ends?:
Code: [Select]
$txt['january_titles'] = 'Janua';
$txt['february_titles'] = 'Februa';

What I meant is index.german.php, index.suaheli.php, index.italian.php, index.spanish.php and so on...

Of course not. Thanks, my mistake.  :-[

Another question. ;)
The "ä" in the month name März, can this stay like this or shouldn't it be changed for utf-8 in ä ?

Your editor will do this for you if you have set the document format to UTF-8. ;)

Aha, okay. I didn't know that the editor can do this. :)

hmm... interesting effect here...
I would be curious to know what exactly you posted here to obtain that strange symbol. But I guess it's difficult to explain since you can't actually post it without elk mangling it up... :-\

This happens when you type the ä, ö, ü and ß in Notepad++ with UTF-8 format. Then convert the format in Notepad++ to ANSI.

For posting the ä in the text here I just did a simple  copy & paste  from a code page.
From a part like this:

Code: [Select]
// Sub menu labels
$txt['view_unread_category'] = 'Neue Beiträge';
$txt['view_replies_category'] = 'Neue Antworten';

If this is how you see it in your editor you have to set it to the correct format UTF-8, Lars.

Here's the package with 100% translated german files for ElkArte 1.0.0 and 1.0.1. Plus a second package with 100% for ElkArte 1.0.2. Both are informal packages. Can anyone please update Transifex for me?
