What about putting the timestamp of the post as title of the subject?

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://www.elkarte.net/index.php?topic=130.msg828#msg828" rel="nofollow" title="Reply #1 - Today, 10:15:00">Re: My preciooooussss...!</a>

I would prefer the other way around. Reply # is displayed but subject is shown when hovering over reply.

Or if you prefer to maintained subject is displayed, then IMO reply should be displayed too (may be float right) rather then when subject is hovered.
