Random topics on our forum will fail to be marked as read in my user account, regardless of if I open them or not. The only way to mark them as read is to click the "Mark these messages as read" button on the topic listing page, until the next time someone posts in one of these topics. Is this a known bug in the 1.0.x line?
Can confirm this in 1.1 on php7 as well.
Random behaviours are very seldom truly random.
There is for sure some common pattern, unfortunately, the only one that can find it it's you that is reporting the issue.
First of all try to identify these topics and see what they may have in common, then if you don't see anything, try posting some example topics here and the exact procedure you are following (I know it sounds dumb, but describe exactly what you do makes a lot of difference in triaging and debugging. ;)
Not sure what commonality exists. There are two topics that do this anytime there is a new post by any member. I can post links if ya like.
Found it. This behavior exists if you Unwatch a topic. ;)
ohh... now that's a good catch!
Will look into it.
hmm...
I tried:
1) user 1 clicks "unwatch" on a topic,
2) user 2 posts a new message in the topic,
3) user 1 visits that topic,
For me is marked as read.
Can you describe exactly how to reproduce the issue, please?
Huh. Sorry eman, that's all I have at the moment. I'll try moar troubleshooting and get back.
Following the process you described triggers the behavior. Can't find what's different. :-X
Theme has no effect. Caching (apcu on php7) disabled and cleared does not matter. Membergroup isn't the problem. Ideas to try?
@live627 I tried both.
@badmonkey hmm... at the moment not much.

For examples, do you want pix or links?
This happens on both of my larger boards. Both use the same setup and addons. Haven't tested on the smaller ones.
Links would be better.
Here is one

Here is another.

Those are topics where it happens to me, and are Unwatched by me. ;)
Are you by chance using post approval?
No. But.....I Unwatched this topic, and never saw your reply as a new one..... ;)
LOL
/me goes back thinking
Don't know if this matters. This happens going to Recent Unread Topics. Have no idea if it happens navigating other ways. Just grasping at straws here. :(
Something else to note here. Going to action=unread;all Clicking the New button always takes you to the first post after the Unwatch button was clicked. That may be several pages from the actual last post. It's as if the timestamp is never updated....
Could this be related to Mariadb 10.2 in any way?
I don't think MariaDB 10.2 is the fault.
Sure wouldn't think so. Still trying to find anything "different". Troubleshooting is the hard part! :D
Agree. :D
