all this on the board SMF2.1. As a mod in 2.0. IMHO

The best thing you can do is download elkarte, install it in localhost and discover what's new ;)

Yes, is based on smf 2.1, but smf 2.1 is in beta and it will take some time until it became stable as elkarte. For smf 2.1 there are no mods availble, but for elkarte there are some nice mods ;)

you may have a look at this topic http://www.elkarte.net/community/index.php?topic=2215.0

I may be wrong. But there is only a mentions mod that is good enough and free with SMF 2.0 . Nigabo used to offer a great mod but alerts + Like itself costs around $ 50.  Free like mod is not up to the mark when I tried and it won't give you alerts as well.

Yes, SMF 2.1 does have those features but it won't be stable for another 3 months. ElkArte has all of them inbuilt and comes with stock install.

The same is true for phpBB and MyBB.

I guess it's a matter of tastes.

SMF was well localized. Why there are few language files for ElkArte?

We would appreciate if you can start the change :)

More active development. If you are on SMF right now, you probably won't notice much. In a year, you will probably wish you switched to Elkarte when your forum was smaller. It has a lot to do with the underlying code. It is easier for plugins to be built and for tests to be written which will lead to more plugins and less bugs.

We use SMF's localized files as a base.. The problem is: lot's of strings have changed, many strings have been added due to the new features (likes, @mention, bad behaviour, posting by email....)
This is the current status:

We'd be more than happy If you could help with the russian translation.

I have been with SMF since 2006 and I have been making some modifications since then. However, I find that ElkArte has supersedes SMF in various aspects. As said by our friends above, do try it yourself.

I also do Malay localization for SMF, ElkArte and SimplePortal (and Indonesian for SP).

there are some responsive templates for smf 2.0.x but the first mod you will install it will break the responsive template. I already tried

Nope.

@gorbi ElkArte comes with a responsive design (which means it can resize itself with mobile screen). So using Tapatalk won't be necessary in this.

I feel that Tapatalk  would be useful on Elkarte,  as there are notifications and useful things in it. It's much easier to navigate through it.

Already created a basic app for ElkArte. Once we get a way to add notification, we will never need tapatalk.

A basic app for ElkArte is good, but tapatalk is a single point for many forums on different engines. There are people who do not use the desktop version.

Tapatalk seems to have many security vulnerabilities.

I'm not against, it's just one of the few things I'm not going to do myself.

My point is that tapatalk is made by a company that gains money on their software, and since I'm not here to promote tapatalk, but to build a forum software, I don't feel it's my task to create a way to integrate ElkArte with tapatalk.
Even more because I'm not going to use it[1] on my forums.

Please, don't misunderstand me: I'm fine with making money out of open source projects[2].

So, at the end of the day, if anyone feels like tapatalk is worth the effort, he can lobby the tapatalk creators to have a way to make it work with ElkArte or find someone interested in writing the necessary code (either for free or for money, it's not my problem ;)), I wouldn't stop anyone doing so.
And I'm here, I can answer questions if necessary.
If I were to use it somehow I may try to have a look at it, but that's not the case and likely it will never be.
I have considered it myself to offer private paid support for ElkArte-based forums, but I have not reached a decision yet.
