I don't think ElkArte is a fork of SMF 2.1.

Looks more like 2.0 with some of 2.1 added in. ;)
I think some of the 2.0 forks, have been updated with some of the 2.1 code.

Not really. I don't see some of the code from 2.1 but eventually a may be unless ElkArte direction is totally different.

We started from 2.1 development code a long time ago, when it was considered feature-frozen (i.e. before someone decided betas are for active development).
So, it is a fork of 2.1, but not the current one. If it makes sense. LOL

Lol... I always thought ways before 2.1 pre alpha is 2.0...

I can see she added a lot more hooks but are that hooks really needed or necessary or is the whole new future of it?
