Give it a try again when you get a chance ... I think the query was not inserting the entry in to the log_topics table. I have now moved that to subs-topic and changed it a little so maybe now?
I don't remember if it is intended that when a topic is marked as read the "disregard" status is lost...if I know myself it's not (i.e. I'd vote for the bug), but it is a bit borderline...
