How exactly can we change the favicon? I have uploaded the required image at the address in the page source of my forum. And, I looked on this forum and found out this topic: https://www.elkarte.net/community/index.php?topic=2698.msg18280#msg18280 regarding my query. However, removing that line from the mentioned file didn't help (the favicon changed to something like a deer) and I haven't really understood what the other reply says (just change the png there - Where?). What am I supposed to do to change the favicon?
Hi!
You don't need to change something there.
In default (or in your theme) there is an image, called mobile.png.
This is the green ElkArte-Favicon.
Give your favicon this name, upload it in themes/default/images and the favicon will change.
@Ruth Well, that's the obvious way to do it and that's what I've done (you may check: forum URL: forum.thevhgroup.ml favicon URL: https://forum.thevhgroup.ml/themes/default/images/mobile.png). The favicon I get to see in the browser and the image at this address are totally different.
I don't know, what is happening there.
But I can see your favicon here in browser: https://forum.thevhgroup.ml
That's really weird. Because, I'm getting ElkArte favicon only. Tried clearing cache, cookies, etc.
Don't you see it?
This is, what I see:
(Link-5614) Maybe you should clear your browser cache?
Edit: Ah...you did already
Yeah. You're seeing the correct thing. I tried on my phone, incognito mode, etc. It's correcty showing at just one place (on my desktop browser where I haven't cleared anything). Rest everywhere, it's the ElkArte logo.
What browsers are we talking about?
Me about Chrome and the screenshot from
@Ruth seems to be Opera.
Yes, it's Opera, I can also see it with Firefox. But I am using a desktop - no mobile device.
And hkokate sees the favicon in browser with his desktop, too.
Could it be you have an favicon.ico image in the root directory of the forum?
Or could be the browser cache
Interesting fact: If the mobile.png file is changed, the "normal" sites of the forum show the new favicon. But if an attached image is opened, the old ElkArte elk is shown, not the mobile.png. :-X
Yes...it is the same in our forum, Jorin. We have still the "old" favicon.ico in the root directory, which we used with SMF. But I don't mind about this.
Maybe it would chance, if there would be a second mobile.png in the root?
@hkokate are you seeing this https://forum.thevhgroup.ml/favicon.ico ?
Try either removing it (or just renaming it to something else than favicon.ico, like nofavicon.ico.
@emanuele Deleted the favicon.ico, no luck. Just to update, I'm getting the square favicon in which is writte ElkArte and not the deer one. Surprisingly enough, even without clearing cache, I'm getting the correct favicon, but, only when I'm logged in (at least in my own account).
@radu81 Please, read. I've clearly mentioned that the cache and cookies are cleared.
Thanks to others for posting too.
Okay... well, honestly I don't know what is going on...
I still think it's a kind of cache (could it be you have a bookmark?), the logged in part may be that if you have enabled the number of notifications in the favicon, then the javascript re-creates on-the-fly the favicon serving it to the browser not from the icon path, but from within the javascript and may provide the correct one.
Just last try, put the mobile.png in the root of the forum (starting from 1.1 is the default to have it in the root).
I've had a similar problem on Joomla even after deleting the browser's cache, if you can try with another browser.
@emanuele Well, yeah, the post login thing seems to be true. And, uploading the mobile.png to the root of the domain didn't work. I was getting a blank page icon instead of any icon (on desktop, and the same square ElkArte icon on the mobile). However, if I delete that again, the thing seems to be normal (the square logo of ElkArte is visible everywhere). So, I guess, my favicon is visible at least when a user logs in. That should be fine.
