This feature request over at SMF makes a lot of sense, IMHO.

 emanuele thinks Spuds already did it here...

ETA: yes, there is also a checkbox "search only in sent items".

 emanuele moves that one to a more appropriate place. :P

Ok, well it doesn't search sent items at all unless you check that box. Shouldn't it search everything by default?

What about "only search inbox"? :P

ETA: Also, the "hide advanced options" is borken. Doesn't do anything. https://github.com/elkarte/Elkarte/issues/601
