Title: Why meta tag title and description are the same?

Just curious to know why the meta title and description are identical. In vbulletin/XF/WBB/IPB the description uses the first words from the first post, in mybb there is no meta description, in phpBB and SMF I see the same behaviour as in elkarte.

I suspect "SMF … same behaviour" explains it all. :P

But yes, it does seem like a "description" that merely duplicates the title might well be better left out completely.

Is there a quick and dirty way to change it and use the first 300 characters from the first post?

I think XF also cover for FB (og:) and Twitter (twitter:) as well.
