Quote selected text

This is a feature that Xenforo, Burning Board, Flarum and NodeBB offers. They allow users to quote a selected piece of text instead of whole post. Users can simple select the text in a post they intend to quote and they get a tool tip to insert it as a quote. Something that will be a nice addition to Elk as well, in my opinion .

I wasn't aware that any forums implemented that by default these days, but of course the idea is pretty obvious. The quick quote script I built upon goes back to '05 or so,[1] when it was conceived as a UserJS forum enhancement. Incidentally there is also the dQuoteSelection addon for SMF. It's functionally inferior and practically unportable across forum systems, but perhaps it's ultimately conceptually better thought out for SMF and related systems like Elk.
I don't recall if it was originally written as a UserJS, which would place it around '05-ish, or if it has earlier roots as a Proxomitron-injected script, which would probably place it around '02 or '03.

SMF is a thousand light years behind other scripts in terms of ideas.
