Huge Space waste in messages

Compare the 2 images, one is great and nearly no waste - the other has a huge gigantic waste of space! More scrolling for the user. It just seems like it is a gigantic waste, and there does not seem to be anything that would be in the way of making it less wasteful. The block with the user picture seem to have more then enough space as well, to narrow it down with the text block :)

On my screen it seems one could take off around 3 centimeters. And that seem to be happening on a lot of messages. Anyway, I've pointed it out, that is the only thing I can do with my lagging skills.
