OpenID login makes a difference between http and https

I registered with http://<myopenid>.

Logging in with https://<myopenid> - where my provider redirects me to anyway - leads to the registration site.

So, if I got it right, if the server_url is http, but the user submit an https url, the system should not care about that difference and continue with the login, right?
