Good hosting for ElkArte

I am facing cpu issues with my host, my forum is new and hardly few visitors visit as of now. But this is the message i see in cPanel.

You have reached entry processes (number of simultaneously running php and cgi scripts, as well as cron jobs and shell sessions) limit 29 times

This is strange for a new forum. What add-ons did you installed?

I am hosting 3 forums on a cheap linode vps and the medium use of cpu is about 7%
sorry for my bad english

How is your traffic?
How much time takes to create the pages? (You can enable the option in the admin panel... theme preferences if I'm not mistaken. It's one of those settings I can never remember where the heck they are. LOL)

@emanuele my site is very new.. hardly 10-50 hits per day. That too some bot and facebook traffic.

Are you getting these figures from google analytics?
I'm asking because, by the sound of it, it may even be some kind of serial spam-bot (or impolite search engine) fetching too many pages each second, and consuming resources.
If it is the case, then change host will not change much and sooner or later you'll have issues again...

BTW, what is your current host?

@emanuele I am getting the stats from cPanel.

Ahh... well, that's quite different from what I was getting.
This is peak, I thought your average CPU usage was high to the point of exceeding limits.

Does that happen any day at that time of the day?

Some reading from your own host:
https://billing.stablehost.com/knowledgebase/186/What-is-considered-an-Entry-Processes.html

So, a peak like that, may very well be from some aggressive bot requesting the same page or multiple pages within a very limited timeframe, resulting in a number of php processes being started in parallel.
See the server log for that period of time may give some more insights, but I guess not that much.

So you are saying it is fine now. That one instance alone needs to be taken care?

I would monitor the situation, if it repeats, I would investigate the issue and try to understand what is going wrong before rushing to change the host.

Thank you for the support, my hosting's technical support also said the same. Now it is running smoothly and they said if it is spikes again they will check it.

Looks indeed like a bot, are you by chance running some testing speed that includes Google Page Speed Insights?
If it is not you, it may be someone else running it repeatedly on multiple pages at the same exact time, also some some random addresses like /blog/ or /railwire-broadband-review/.

Personally, since I don't care at all about Google Page Speed Insights I would ban the user-agent via htaccess and be done with it.

https://www.google.com/search?q=htaccess+block+by+user+agent
First result is:
http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/security/block-unwanted-users-from-your-site-using-htaccess

that gives the example:
Code: [Select]
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} Baiduspider [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F,L]
that can be changed to:
Code: [Select]
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} Google Page Speed Insights [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F,L]

Then do your tests:
1) open your website with your browser normally,
2) if you are using firefox, try an extension that allows you to manipulate your user agent and add the one used by these bots:
Code: [Select]
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; Google Page Speed Insights) Chrome/27.0.1453 Safari/537.36
In the first case you should be able to see the website, in the second you should be blocked.
