Feature request redux: Better spam catching system

This can probably be filtered to an add-on, but still, it would be nice to have. We have been getting a royal buttload of profile spammers lately, and apparently, the armchair moderators who were mopping up after it decided to call it quits at some point, and I wasn't paying attention to our Banhammer script. Let's see. No less than eight different random named never-posted accounts in this one case alone, each with a different social media link belonging to some "steve barbarich" person, who conveniently titles his personal profile link with his name every time he links to one of his profiles. All the rest were for various businesses. All, personal profile link added during registration (no edit history indicating that the link was added post-registration or post-validation, unless there's no edit history tracking for personal links or signatures.), never posted. Some of them also added witty business statements in their signatures, which were also helpfully displayed in their profile pages. This also makes me want to disable profile viewing for guests, but then maybe someone will try to claim that as an excuse for maintaining BugMeNot account(s) for our forum.

Never heard of BugMeNot. I wonder how many people use it. Seems like it would be pretty simple to block it. ElkArte.net should be removed from it.

Never mind, disregard this, I am no longer administering an ElkArte forum, as I retired from that forum over a difference of opinion with the rest of the staff. It seems these people who do nothing but register to share their links to terrible web sites and maybe post once to argue with the local user base are just a bunch of "harmless idiots." As I don't wish to spend time dealing with "harmless idiots" I have decided not to deal with their forum at all.
