What is ElkArte's anti spam strategy March 02, 2014, 04:05:34 am If I may, please give an idea about the plans or concept ElkArte has in place to protect it from bots as well as human spammers.
Re: What is ElkArte's anti spam strategy Reply #1 – March 02, 2014, 05:34:30 am HehTricky question. The first thing has been give a rather simple way to add new "verification methods":http://www.elkarte.net/community/index.php?topic=408.01 hook, 1 class with 4 methods instead of hooks, code edits in several places and so on.Second thing Bad Behaviour is included by default.Third thing, custom questions support multiple languages (and multiple answers), so that are more flexible (though something is still missing here that is a way for "less than admin" to add/translate question/answers).ETA: expanding a bit on the first point, the main problem with spammers is that once they find a way to break one particular defense that becomes useless. Starting from that position, you can easily imagine that any "built-in" method will become obsolete as soon as one spammer breaks it on one forum because at that point all the other forums will be open to spammers as well. So, the most effective defense is something "specific" to your own forum and this cannot be given by the "core", but by a combination of addons installed that give new methods to fight spam.
